Historians at Padiham Green ask questions, investigate evidence and use what they discover to understand the past.
At Padiham Green, we want children to be curious about the past and to understand how people, events and ideas have shaped the world in which they live today.
Our history curriculum is rooted in the National Curriculum and has been carefully designed for the children of Padiham Green. Children develop secure historical knowledge while making connections through key concepts including society, innovation, civilisation, migration and power.
Our curriculum also celebrates our local heritage, with opportunities to explore the history of Padiham and Lancashire alongside British and wider world history. This helps children develop a sense of place and understand how their local community connects to the wider historical story.
As children move through school, they learn to think and work as historians. They develop an understanding of chronology, ask questions about the past, investigate sources and evidence, consider cause and consequence, identify change and continuity, explore historical significance and recognise that the past can be interpreted in different ways.
Through carefully chosen historical enquiries, children learn that history is not simply a collection of facts. They use evidence to investigate questions, make connections between periods and explain their ideas using what they have discovered.
Ultimately, we want our children to leave Padiham Green with a strong understanding of the past, a curiosity to find out more and an appreciation of how history helps us understand our local community and the wider world.
