Artists at Padiham Green explore, experiment and create.
At Padiham Green, we want children to develop their creativity, confidence and curiosity through exploring, experimenting with and creating art.
Our art curriculum is rooted in the National Curriculum and is carefully planned to build children’s artistic knowledge and skills as they progress through school. Children have opportunities to explore drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques, developing increasing control and confidence when working with different materials and processes.
As children move through school, they learn to think and work as artists. They observe closely, explore ideas, experiment with materials and techniques, make creative choices and evaluate and refine their work. Sketchbooks provide a space for children to investigate, practise, record ideas and develop their thinking as part of the creative process.
Children encounter the work of a diverse range of artists, craft makers, designers and architects, from the past and present. They explore different styles, techniques and traditions and consider how art can reflect different people, places, cultures and periods of history. Children use this knowledge as inspiration while developing their own ideas and individual responses.
Through art, we want children to understand that creativity involves exploration, experimentation and making choices, and that there can be many different responses to the same starting point.
Ultimately, we want our children to leave Padiham Green with the knowledge, skills and confidence to create, express their own ideas and appreciate the creativity of others.
